Situated at the Opernplatz, near the Stock Exchange, the monumental concert hall has an impressive Neo-Renaissance façade. It was severely burnt during the war and has been rebuilt after 24 years. It is now a multipurpose complex with concert halls and other venues for conferences.

Goethehaus

The home of Germany’s greatest writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, was rebuilt after World War II bombings in 1944. The interior of this half-timber house provides visitors with a better insight to the lives of the rich in the 18th century. There is also a museum devoted to the art and documents related to the writer.

Hauptwache

The former guardhouse and prison is located in the heart of Frankfurt’s attractions and a large plaza. The baroque building now has a famous café and shopping starts towards the east where the Zeil shopping district is situated.

Paulskirche

Completed in 1833, the neoclassic brick church was once a protestant church until Vorparliament meetings were held there. Religious services resumed only in 1852. The church was the first to be rebuilt after World War II because of its historic significance. Today it is only used for special functions and events.

Römerberg

The central square in Frankfurt’s old town is the site for trade fairs and festivities. The east side of the square, also known as the Ostzeile, has rows of half-timbered houses and historic buildings such as the Römer. At the south there is the History museum and Alter Nikolaikirche, while the fountain of Justice stands in the centre of the lovely square.

Also known as St. Bartholomew Cathedral of the Emperors, this Frankfurt cathedral has an awesome Gothic architecture. Visitors should not miss the Wahlkapelle, or the Election Chapel, where new emperors used to be elected. The cathedral’s tower also offers a stunning view of the city upon ascend.

Senckenburg Museum of Natural History

As one of the most attractive museum in Frankfurt, this natural history museum houses a wide collection of dinosaur skeletons and mounted specimens. Besides educational paleontotogic exhibitions, there are also other galleries devoted to the display of many mounted animal specimens, showing the evolution of life and nature.

Commerzbank Tower

Dominating the skyline in downtown Frankfurt is this modern skyscraper. Standing at 259m, the tower is a fine example of modern architecture in Frankfurt. Due to its use of energy saving technologies and the skygardens, it has been deemed as an ecological skyscraper. The tower is the first skyscraper in Germany to be made with steel.

Zeil

The popular shopping district offers a plethora of shopping opportunities. From huge department stores to chic boutiques, tourists and locals will be thrilled by the top-notch shopping experience. The Zeilgalerie located in this area is also as famous for its architecture as for its shops. It has a spiral shaped interior and is made of glass and steel. Other modern architecture to behold at Zeil include the PalaisQuartier and MyZeil, which boasts an amazing glass façade in the shape of a vortex.
